Professional Development

Any SU faculty or staff interested in learning more about the QM Rubric are encouraged to take the Applying the Quality Matters Rubric (APPQMR) workshop which is a pre-requisite for Peer Reviewer and Master Reviewer certification.

Applying the Quality Matters Rubric (APPQMR)

QM's flagship workshop on the QM Rubric and its use in reviewing the design of online and blended courses is intended for a broad audience, including but not limited to faculty, instructional designers, administrators, and adjunct instructors. It is particularly helpful to those new to QM or those considering a QM course review. This workshop is a pre-requisite for the Peer Reviewer Course. SU offers the APPQMR workshop throughout the year in both face-to-face and online formats.

The APPQMR workshop is mandatory for any SU faculty or staff member who would like to serve on an internal QM course review. See the Faculty Development calendar for the next APPQMR workshop.

Peer Reviewer Course (PRC)

The Peer Review Course (PRC) is designed to prepare experienced online faculty to become QM Certified Peer Reviewers. The course may also be taken by others interested in learning more about the peer reviewer role. It includes a review of the foundational principles of Quality Matters and the QM Rubric. In addition, over the three-week period, participants apply Specific Review Standards to an online course (locate evidence, make decisions based on the evidence, and write helpful recommendations). Finally, participants use their new skill-set to complete a practice review of an online course using eight Specific Review Standards from the QM Rubric. This “Practice Review” assignment is completed in the QM Course Review Management System (CRMS) which QM-Certified Peer Reviewers use in a real course review. Upon successful completion of this course, eligible participants will complete and submit a QM Role Application and Memo of Understanding to become a QM Certified Peer Reviewer.

The PRC course is required for any SU faculty or staff member who would like to serve on an official QM course review. ID&D will annually cover the cost of 4 SU faculty or staff members to participate in the PRC course. Please contact ID&D before registering for this course for additional guidance.

Master Reviewer Course (MRC)

The Master Reviewer Certification (MRC) is an advanced certification course for experienced QM Peer Reviewers. The role of the QM Master Reviewer is integral to ensuring the rigor and consistency of the peer-review process. In this course, Peer Reviewers will learn the role of Master Reviewers including management of the entire review process and coaching peers to ensure helpful recommendations are provided for course improvements.

The MRC course is required for any SU faculty or staff member who would like to serve as a Team Chair for SU internal course reviews or Team Chair for an official QM course review. ID&D will annually cover the cost of 2 SU faculty or staff members to participate in the MRC course. Please contact ID&D before registering for this course for additional guidance.
