SU Celebrates Student Successes

Holloway HallSALISBURY, MD---Salisbury University celebrates the following recent student achievements:

Junior geography major Daniel Milbrath of Dickerson, MD, recently helped the Mid-Atlantic All-Star Team to its second consecutive victory in the American Association of Geographers’ World Geography Bowl (WGB) quiz competition during the organization’s annual conference in Washington, D.C. Dr. Fulbert Namwamba, SU professor of geography and environmental studies, aided the team, which bested nine others to take the title. This is the second national championship WGB team of which Milbrath has been a member.

SU’s Model United Nations Club was named an Outstanding Delegation — the highest possible group honor — for its representation of Palestine, an observer state, during this year’s National Model United Nations Conference in New York.

Two team members — junior political science and international studies major Zia Ashraf of Federalsburg, MD, and senior social work and political science major Eleanor Brown of Ijamsville, MD — also earned an Outstanding Position Paper honor. Their paper presented Palestine’s views on three international issues: inclusive development for persons with disabilities, combating human trafficking, and strengthening humanitarian and disaster relief assistance.

Additional team members included international studies major Arianna Lange of Eldersburg, MD; political science major Rachel Paul of Ellicott City, MD; earth science major Rachael Perrotta of Severn, MD; geography major Derek Rhoten of Irmo, SC; political science and international studies major Dorien Rogers of Clarksburg, Md; business economic major Fernanda Carriedo Rosado of Cabin John, MD; and international studies major Aaron Stiegler of Salisbury.

Students in Dr. Richard Hoffman’s strategic management class in SU’s Franklin P. Perdue School of Business were recognized among the world’s best participating in this semester’s global Business Strategy Game simulation. One team, Babs N Co., was ranked 39th out of 4,075 teams from more than 200 colleges and universities worldwide. The game’s eight-week scenario simulates competition and marketing in the athletic shoe industry, sharpening students’ business and management skills.

Babs N Co. team members included marketing major Jonathan Babula of Pittstown, N.J.; finance major Derek Gibson of Damascus, MD; management major Tanner Jacob of Silver Spring, MD; management major Frank Pipich Jr. of Sewell, NJ; and management major Alec Shankle of Edgewater, MD.
