F-1 On-Campus Employment
F-1 visa holding students do not need authorization from the international office to work on campus (different from the CPT and OPT categories). Please keep in mind you can only work on campus during your program dates, your program completion date is the last date that you can work on campus, even if you have a pending OPT application. For reference, you can see your end date on your most current I-20. Please note that on-campus work at Salisbury University is capped at 40 hours per week, even during the summer and winter breaks.
Please keep in mind that you are only permitted to work up to 20 hours per week during regular semesters, while you are allowed to work more than 20 hours during official school breaks. Please note that if you graduate in the summer and that summer is your final term (meaning you will not continue into the following fall term), the final summer term is not considered an annual break. Therefore, during that final summer term, you are not permitted to work more than 20 hours per week on campus. This differs from previous summer terms, during which working more than 20 hours was permitted because those summers were classified as part of the “annual break.” A final summer term before graduation is not considered an annual break.
You will need to request a certification letter from the university in order to be able to receive a Social Security number.
If you require a letter, please download this Social Security letter document (PDF).
