SU Art Galleries Presents 'Shattered Frames: The Films of Martha Colburn' through November 8

Shattered FramesSALISBURY, MD---Salisbury University Art Galleries inaugurates its fall season with the exhibit “Shattered Frames: The Films of Martha Colburn” through Tuesday, November 8, in the Electronic Gallery, Conway Hall Room 128.

A workshop led by Colburn is 3-6 p.m. Wednesday, October 5 (location TBA). An artist talk and reception is 5:30 p.m. Thursday, October 6, in Conway Hall Room 153.

Created through puppetry, collage and paint-on-glass techniques, Colburn’s films explore the underground, the political, the societal and the sexual in a mixture of craft and vision in the vein of Hieronymus Bosch, Monty Python, and contemporary pop and consumer culture.

Colburn has a regional connection, having earned her B.F.A. in painting from the Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore and her M.F.A. equivalent at Rijksakademie Van Beeldende Kunsten in Amsterdam.

She has exhibited at galleries and film festivals throughout the U.S. and Europe, including the acclaimed Sundance Film Festival. Colburn has won the Exaequo Award for best short film at the l’Aternativa Film Festival in Barcelona, Spain, and the Best Animated Film Award at the New York Underground Film Festival, among other honors.

Sponsored by SU Art Galleries, admission to the exhibit, workshop and reception is free and the public is invited. Gallery hours are 9 a.m.-7 p.m. Tuesday-Wednesday, 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Thursday-Saturday.
