African-American History Month: "Of Ebony Embers" is February 9

SALISBURY, MD ----Salisbury University presents "Of Ebony Embers" on Sunday, February 9, at 3 p.m. in Holloway Hall Auditorium. A musical theatre work for solo actor and chamber music trio, "Of Ebony Embers" explores the life and times of African Americans who have helped shape the Harlem Renaissance.

The piece makes a connection to the lives and works of three outstanding but different African American poets: Langston Hughes, Countee Cullen and Claude McKay, as seen through the eyes of the renowned painter and muralist Aaron Douglas.

Music by the Core Ensemble, a nationally acclaimed trio of cello, piano and percussion, features compositions by such artists as Duke Ellington, Jelly Roll Morton, Billy Strayhorn, Thelonius Monk, Charles Mingus, and composers Jeffrey Mumford and George Walker.

The event, free and open to the public, is sponsored by SU's Office of Multiethnic Student Services and the Black History Month Planning Committee. For information call 410-543-6030 or visit the SU Web site at www.salisbury.edu.
