MK Gallery Showcases Work by Kim Through September 28

Kim painting 'Epilogue'SALISBURY, MD---The MK Gallery in Vienna, VA, hosts the solo exhibition “Interface” by Jinchul Kim, Salisbury University professor of art, September 8-28.

    An opening reception is 3-5 p.m. Saturday, September 8.

A realist oil painter known for his exceptional portraiture, Kim has been a resident of Maryland since 1996. Born in South Korea, he came to the United States in 1989.

He earned his B.F.A. and M.F.A. from King Se-Jong University in Seoul, Korea, concentrating on painting. In 1993, he received a second M.F.A. from the School of Visual Arts in New York, focusing on multimedia and sound installation. He shows his work internationally, including locations in Korea, Japan, France and Spain.

Kim’s work has been seen in more than 20 solo exhibitions in New York, Florida, Virginia, Maryland, Delaware and Seoul, and in over 170 invitational shows and group exhibitions.

His honors include being named Artist of the Year by Seoul’s Art Journal magazine and receiving the Phyllis H. Mason Grant from the Art Students League of New York. He also twice received the Maryland State Arts Council Individual Artist Award and earned the George Sugarman Foundation’s Artist Grant.

His classroom accolades include the University System of Maryland Board of Regents’ Faculty Award for Excellence in Teaching and the SU Distinguished Faculty Award.

Kim is head of the senior exhibition, painting and drawing programs at SU.
