The SU Libraries’ borrowing and fine policies are designed to ensure patrons have equitable access to our materials and receive fair and consistent service. Polices are based on patron type (faculty, undergraduate student, etc.) and the kind of item being checked out (general collection book, DVD, laptop, etc.).
We do not charge overdue fines for most items, however we do assess some fees for severely overdue items, items lost or damaged, overdue recalls, and certain other scenarios. If you have been charged a fine and would like to learn how to pay it, please see our How do I pay a library fine? page.
The SU Libraries has three general purpose classrooms in the Guerrieri Academic Commons: AC 117, AC 162, and AC 163. The primary purpose of these classrooms is for information literacy instruction conducted by SU librarians. When not in use, these classrooms are open for students to use as study spaces.
AC 163 can be reserved by non-library faculty and staff. Please see our full Classroom Policies for more information about reserving this classroom.
The full code of conduct is presently under review. In general, if your behavior is disruptive, we can ask you to leave. In addition, here are a few specific policies in effect.
Vulnerable adults and minors
Vulnerable adults and minors under the age of 15 years must be accompanied and supervised at all times by a responsible adult. Library staff may attempt to contact a parent or guardian for any minor, as defined herein, left without adult supervision. University Police may be notified as appropriate.
Photography, Recording, and Filming
Any use of the libraries as a filming location (including still photography) must be approved in advance by the Dean of Libraries and Instructional Resources.
Individual photographs and recordings of patrons that are not disruptive are allowed with the patron’s permission.
Solicitation
Selling products, solicitation, circulating petitions, distributing leaflets, taking surveys, and other similar activities are not allowed without prior approval from the Dean of Libraries and Instructional Resources.
Our Collection Development Policy defines the principles and practices that guide how we build and maintain our collections. This includes the selection of new materials, the retention of existing items, and the thoughtful deselection of materials that no longer meet our community’s needs.
We welcome campus organizations to place collection or donation boxes in the Guerrieri Academic Commons. Our Collection Box Policy outlines the guidelines we have in place to ensure all campus groups can equitable access to the space.
The Salisbury University Libraries are committed to adhering to all applicable U.S. laws regarding intellectual property. The Libraries are also dedicated to providing copyright education and an environment in which all library patrons can make responsible and ethical use of copyrighted works in any format while taking full advantage of their rights under the fair use doctrine.
The Libraries copyright guide serves as an informational resource for the campus community. This guide is not intended to offer or substitute for legal advice. It is intended to provide an overview of key copyright issues and guidance in the application of the U.S. copyright law. The Libraries will not assume legal responsibility for library patrons who fail to make a good faith determination or otherwise do not comply with copyright law.
The Guerrieri Academic Commons has a limited number of study rooms available. Because these spaces are in high demand, our Study Room Policies are designed to ensure fair and equitable access for all SU students, faculty, and staff.
The Guerrieri Academic Commons offers two types of lockers: small lockers equipped with power sockets to allow device charging, and larger lockers for storing bulky items. The smaller lockers are available on a first-come, first-served basis and allow you to set your own security code with a built-in lock. The larger lockers must be reserved. They can be reserved for a semester at a time and require a separate lock, which will be provided to you upon reservation.
All lockers are located on the first floor of the GAC near the Library Service Desk and the coffee shop. They are reservable by all SU students, faculty, and staff, as well as by community members with a special borrower's card.
The SU Libraries MakerLab's policies govern what types of items we will print, how we charge for material usage, and how we handle appointment requests. We reserve the right to refuse to print any object that violates our policies. Please reach out to us at makerlab@salisbury.edu if you have questions.
The SU Libraries utilize several streaming media services that allow our community to access videos online without needing to deal with physical media like DVDs or Blu-Rays. However, due to the way streaming media is licensed to libraries, we need to be deliberate about what materials we purchase and which platforms we purchase them through. Our Streaming Media Licensing Policy outlines the options available and how we make purchasing decisions related to these resources.
