SALISBURY, MD---Dr. Frank Shipper of Salisbury University’s Management and Marketing Department in the Franklin P. Perdue School of Business recently presented at one of the world’s most prestigious institutions of higher learning — again.

For the second consecutive year, Shipper was an invited speaker on employee ownership at the Conference on Business and Poverty, held at the University of Oxford in England, in affiliation with The Wheatley Institution of Brigham Young University. His presentation earned praise from attendees, according to conference coordinator John Hoffmire of Oxford’s Saïd Business School. The conference drew over 300 people from more than 50 countries.

Shipper’s presentations included “Ownership and Poverty,” with Dr. Colin Mayer, the Peter Moores Professor of Management Studies at Saïd Business School, and “How Employee Ownership Can Build Middle-Class Wealth,” with Jennifer Briggs, human resources director for New Belgium Brewing.

In “Ownership and Poverty,” Shipper examined employee-owned businesses both in the US and Europe, and how systems that include entrepreneurship and employee ownership can have an impact on issues including poverty and the environment without foregoing profits.

In “How Employee Ownership Can Build Middle-Class Wealth,” Shipper discussed various types of employee ownership plans and their impact on job security, income and capital accumulation by the middle-class in the US and Europe.

Shipper has extensively researched employee ownership and its role in creating vibrant enterprises and economies. His research has been referenced by national media, including MSNBC and The Wall Street Journal, and featured on the Aspen Institute’s CasePlace website.

He has received several grants and awards to continue his work, including Rutgers University’s prestigious Kevin E. Ruble Fellowship. He also was the lead author of the 2014 book Shared Entrepreneurship: A Path to Engaged Employee Ownership.
