Perdue School of Business are winners — some of them literally.

Some 62 students recently vied for top honors during the SU Mid-Atlantic Sales and Marketing Institute’s inaugural sales championship competition. The event included two contests, one for overall sales and one for elevator pitches.

Marketing major Julia Rey of Annapolis received $1,000 for her first-place finish in the overall sales competition. Runners-up included marketing major Ann Williams of Salisbury in second place, communication arts major Megan Hammon of Salisbury in third and marketing major Tyler Morris of Ellicott City, MD, in fourth.

Conor Behr of Sykesville topped his competitors in the elevator pitch session, followed by Daniel Consoli of Chester, MD, in second and Nathan Valdes of Pittsville, MD, in third. All are marketing majors.

“Sales is all about competition and winning,” said Dr. Amit Poddar, MASMI director. “By bringing these students together to compete in front of regional business and sales representatives, we are helping them develop the skills they will need to thrive in the field.”

Winners were decided by some 45 judges and buyers representing MASMI sponsors and local businesses. The event followed an “etiquette dinner” for the students and corporate partners, also hosted by the institute.

Sponsors included APPI Energy; Choptank Transport; Enterprise Rent-A-Car; Gartner, Inc.; NewDay USA; Northwestern Mutual; Perdue Farms; Pohanka Automotive Group of Salisbury; Risk Placement Services; Shore Bancshares; SportsOffice365; Tom James; and WeddingWire.com.
