SU plans commemoration of Sept. 11 attacks

SALISBURY, MD --The public is invited to join the Salisbury University community in a commemoration of the September 11 attacks. As part of that day, the University Music Department will participate in a worldwide performance of Mozart's "Requiem" at 8:45 a.m., the time when the first plane hit the first Tower.

On the eve of the anniversary, Tuesday, September 10, a meditative labyrinth walk in the Wicomico Room of the Guerrieri University Center opens at 5:15 p.m. Clergy from all faiths throughout the community have been invited to participate in this ceremonial opening. That evening at 7:30 p.m. in Caruthers Hall Auditorium, University faculty hold a dialogue with the audience on the meaning and impact of September 11 on their lives--a year later.

The following morning in the Great Hall of Holloway Hall, Dr. Patrick Freer, SU director of choral activities, conducts area choirs, students and interested participants in a "read through" of the "Requiem." Scores are provided.

The labyrinth remains open throughout the week, allowing walking and contemplation. Hours are Tuesday, September 10, 6-8 p.m.; Wednesday, September 11, 8 a.m.-8 p.m.; and Thursday-Friday, September 12-13, 10 a.m.-8 p.m.

A digital (finger) labyrinth for the visually and mobility-impaired also is available. (Both are courtesy of Amy Isaacs of Salisbury. Isaacs will be available each evening and all day September 11 to answer questions about the labyrinth.) A memorial journal allows walkers to record their thoughts following the event.
