SU Sweeps DMAWEF Fall Collegiate MAXI Competition

MAXI winnersSALISBURY, MD---Students from Salisbury University’s Franklin P. Perdue School of Business recently brought home the gold … and the silver … and the bronze during the Direct Marketing Association of Washington Education Foundation’s (DMAWEF) fall Collegiate MAXI Competition.

Student teams throughout the mid-Atlantic were challenged to create a marketing plan for the Chevrolet Volt for area automotive dealer Ourisman Chevrolet. SU’s three entries swept the competition.

The SU team of Danielle Hart of Baltimore; Chelsea Jalbert of New Milford, CT; Matt Tarbert of Bel Air, MD; and Julianne Waxman of Holmdel, NJ, placed first, earning the Gold MAXI. Amanda Abbott of Cambridge, MD; Amy Donovan of Sykesville, MD; Curtis Ford of Ellicott City, MD; and Carey Hill of La Plata, MD, received Silver, while D’Arcy Devine of Norwalk, CT; Zachary Heeter of Hampstead, MD; Megan Ring of Salisbury; and Eric Sichau of Berlin, MD, took Bronze. All were coached by Dr. Howard Dover of the Management and Marketing Department.

“No other university has been awarded a bronze since the Collegiate MAXI event became an independent competition two years ago,” said Dover, whose teams have placed among the final three each semester.

He noted that this semester’s bronze team was comprised entirely of students from introductory marketing classes. They bested teams from upper-level classes at other institutions.

Students from all three of this semester’s winning teams automatically qualified to participate in DMAWEF’s “Mentor for a Day” program, through which they will visit with DMAW member firms to develop an understanding of career opportunities within those companies.

During the competition, students also met with visiting guests Karen Rice-Gardiner of National Geographic and Jeanne Smith of Agora Publishing, who provided insight into the publishing industry and the creative process.

The Collegiate MAXI Competition is open to colleges and universities throughout the mid-Atlantic. This marked the second year SU has swept the fall event.
