SGA Names Gorrow Outstanding Faculty Member of the Year

SALISBURY, MD---Dr. Teena Ruark Gorrow, assistant professor of education in the Seidel School of Education and Professional Studies at Salisbury University, was recently named the 2002-2003 Outstanding Faculty Member of the Year by the SU Student Government Association on behalf of the student body.

 

Gorrow received this award during the Celebration of University Leadership earlier this spring.

 

“I am truly thrilled to be a recipient of this prestigious honor,” said Gorrow.  “I believe that teaching is the most important thing I can do with my life; it is my passion and my mission.  Being recognized by students means the world to me and is perhaps the hallmark of my career.”

 

As a faculty member at SU, Gorrow teaches graduate and undergraduate courses in education foundations, classroom management, cooperative learning and school administration. In addition to teaching in the Department of Education, she has served the University community as coordinator of SU’s Professional Development Schools Program, administrator of several grants, and member of a variety of school and department committees.

 

Also listed in the 2002 edition of Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers, Gorrow brings a wide range of public school experiences to SU. She is a former public school teacher, assistant principal, principal, central office administrator, curriculum coordinator, and coordinator of assessment in Talbot County.

 

She received her doctorate in 1996 from the University of Maryland College Park in the field of education policy, planning, and administration and is a former Talbot County Teacher of the Year and Maryland State Teacher of the Year finalist.

 

She lives in Cambridge, MD, with her husband, Wayne, and is the daughter of Paul and Ellen Ruark of Hoopersville, MD.
