Casola Speaks on 'Adapting to Climate Change' at SU Tuesday, November 19

Joe CasolaSALISBURY, MD---Dr. Joe Casola, program director of science and impacts at the Center for Climate and Energy Solutions in Arlington, VA, speaks Tuesday, November 19, at Salisbury University.

His presentation, “Adapting to Climate Change: Challenges and Opportunities,” is 5:30 p.m. in Devilbiss Hall Room 123. Casola reviews the “big picture” scientific understanding of climate change, underscoring the need to prepare communities and infrastructure for the impacts many predict will occur in the coming decades.

Rising sea levels, more frequent and intense heat waves, and more severe droughts, wildfires and downpours may pose challenges for communities on the Eastern Shore and beyond. Casola, however, believes they also may present opportunities to improve the provision of critical services such as energy, water and food throughout the United States.

The Center for Climate and Energy Solutions is an independent nonprofit, nonpartisan organization promoting strong policy and action to address the challenges of energy and climate change. Launched in November 2011, it is the successor to the Pew Center on Global Climate Change.

Sponsored by the Charles R. and Martha N. Fulton School of Liberal Arts, Fulton Sustainability Committee and Environmental Studies Department, admission to Casola’s talk is free and the public is invited.
