SU Students Learn from Wall Street Professionals During Annual FMA New York Trip

SALISBURY, MD---Some 28 students in Salisbury University’s chapter of the Financial Management Association (FMA) recently traveled to New York to visit financial institutions and learn from finance professionals in a variety of roles.

Accompanied by Dr. Ani Mathers, FMA advisor and professor of finance in SU’s Franklin P. Perdue School of Business, their trip continued a tradition with the organization spanning more than 30 years.

Among the institutions visited were Wells Fargo, hosted by Ayden Zuber ’23; J.P. Morgan Private Bank, hosted by Vice Chairman Ron McGann ’88; and Pantheon Ventures, thanks to the support of The Mason Companies.

“We were able to visit the new JPMorgan Chase Tower, which is one of the tallest buildings in the city,” said junior Delaney McOmber, finance major of California, MD. “It’s an incredible experience getting to tour a company’s global headquarters, learn of their history, and witness how expansive the investment and banking network is in the city.”

Students heard from executives and alumni on insights and advice, and had their questions about current market conditions, investments in private assets, trends in artificial intelligence, and careers in finance answered.

“I really appreciate the networking opportunities provided to us and how generous the SU alumni were with their time and heartfelt advice,” said McOmber. “It’s rewarding to have a small cohort where you can ask all your career questions and have them answered honestly from people who have the same careers you could one day see yourself in.”

Thanks to McGann, students also visited the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE), hosted by NYSE regional head for the northeast Joe Tama, to watch the opening bell on the trading floor. Afterward, they had the opportunity to ask questions and learn about the NYSE’s history, innovation, and competitive advantages.

An SU alumni networking event at The Perfect Pint, cosponsored by SU’s Office of Alumni Engagement, provided opportunities for students and alumni to interact in an informal setting. Students made valuable connections and learned lessons about working and living in New York and transitioning from students to business professionals.

In addition to the annual trip, the student-led FMA provides its members with professional development opportunities throughout the year. The organization hosts speaking events each week that help students explore opportunities in finance, network with peers and professionals, and gain additional knowledge about the finance industry and careers in finance.

Students interested in joining the FMA should email Mathers.
