The Voice Behind Sea Gull Sports, Michael Calls Tomorrow’s Biggest Plays

SALISBURY, MD---Some students spend years waiting for the right moment. Michael Greco started creating his the second he stepped onto Salisbury University’s campus. From calling national tournament games to being on ESPN, he’s already turning his passion for sports journalism into an unforgettable career.

Michael works for SU’s Sports Information Office, where he broadcasts Sea Gull Athletics games across campus—from soccer and field hockey to basketball and national-level football tournament games.

Game-winning plays. High pressure drives. Last-minute touchdowns. Every game he calls is more than a score. It’s a story waiting to be told.

“I want to tell stories that inspire people to chase their dreams,” Michael said. “SU has given me opportunities as a freshman that most students at other universities don’t get until they’re a senior. Here, students have the power to tell their own stories.”

Michael grew up in Dover, Delaware, with a love of sports and an even bigger love for the voices that brought those games to life. He admired the way great broadcasters could capture a moment, how they could turn a single play into something unforgettable. When he enrolled at SU as a communication major in multimedia journalism, he didn’t want to be the athlete scoring the goal. He wanted to be the one painting the picture for everyone listening.

As a student, he’s already done more than he ever could have dreamed. He’s even heard his own voice on ESPN.

“I was only a sophomore,” he said. “To imagine I could have opportunities like this to make my mark on the field, even before graduating. Every day on this campus, I just get excited for what comes next.”

Beyond the mic, he’s learned the technical skills that make a modern sports journalist stand out: radio production, audio editing, graphic design, and more. Everything he’s doing now becomes part of the portfolio he’ll one day take into the field.

But for Michael, storytelling goes deeper than highlights and scores.

“I like sharing stories of people who may not be able to tell their story themselves,” he said. “Sports is about overcoming adversity. It’s inspiring. I love telling those special stories that bring people together.”

Coming to SU from out of state, Michael wasn’t sure how quickly he’d find his place. But covering SU Athletics has given him a close-up look at something he believes sets SU apart: heart.

“All across the board, SU’s coaches are incredible, and there’s a big community bond,” he said. “Our athletes play for each other, not for scholarships. It’s like you’re playing for a family, not just for yourself.”

He sees it in the stadium, where Sea Gull fans pack the stands. He sees it in the classroom, where athletes lift each other up academically. And he sees it in the everyday interactions—the quiet, uncelebrated moments when SU students show what it really means to show up for something bigger than themselves.

With each day, Michael gets a glimpse of the future he’s working toward. As he continues to sharpen his craft, he knows the stories ahead are only going to get bigger and brighter. He’s already doing the work he once only imagined. And the best part? He’s just getting warmed up.
