SU's Fulton School Adds New Minors

By SU Public Relations

SALISBURY, MD---Salisbury University students have new opportunities to explore their interests, develop specialized skills, and prepare for a variety of career paths through four new and upcoming minors offered through the Charles R. and Martha N. Fulton School of Liberal Arts.

The programs — intercultural skills for the workplace, game design, health communication, and photography — reflect the wide variety of liberal arts opportunities at SU, connecting students’ academic interests with practical skills that can complement any number of majors.

“Salisbury University and the Fulton School support the personal, professional and civic formation of all SU students,” said Dr. Maarten Pereboom, dean of the Fulton School. “These new minor options enhance majors all across the University, advancing and deepening skills and dispositions that contribute to success in adult life.”

The Intercultural Skills for the Workplace Minor, beginning in fall 2027, prepares students to communicate effectively across languages, cultures and backgrounds. Through language development, intercultural learning and community-based projects, students will build skills applicable to careers in healthcare, education, social work, business, public service, and other fields.

Students interested in interactive media and creative technology can explore the Game Design Minor. Combining storytelling, visual design, technology, psychology, and media studies, the program examines how games are created and how they influence the people who play them. Coursework emphasizes creative experimentation, problem-solving and the development of interactive experiences, with opportunities to pursue interests ranging from game narratives to player experience.

The Health Communication Minor prepares students to develop clear, credible and inclusive messages about health and well-being. Students explore audience analysis, message design, behavior-change strategies and digital campaigns, learning how communication can influence health decisions, build trust, and connect communities with important information. These skills can support career paths in healthcare, public relations, education, advocacy, and nonprofit organizations.

For students looking to strengthen their creative and visual storytelling abilities, the Photography Minor provides hands-on opportunities to develop technical skills, artistic vision and an individual photographic style. Designed to complement other fields of study, the program connects photography with areas such as journalism, communication, environmental studies, marketing, and computer science. Projects encourage students to explore how images can document communities, express ideas and capture different perspectives.

Together, these four new minors give students additional ways to broaden their academic experience while developing skills relevant to an evolving workforce.

The programs are part of the Fulton School’s broad approach to liberal arts education, which encourages students to explore connections among disciplines and apply their learning to real-world challenges.
