2023 Sea Gull Century Artwork Unveiled
SALISBURY, MD---The thousands of bicyclists participating in Salisbury University’s Sea Gull Century ride each year come from across the U.S. and beyond, boasting various skill levels and many different types of equipment.
Yet, all have one thing in common: They all start the ride under the same yellow banner on Bateman Street.
Artwork for the event’s 35th installment, scheduled Saturday, October 14, represents that spirit of camaraderie, depicting cyclists making their way toward the starting line as a pair of encouraging sea gulls soar overhead. That scene will be featured on T-shirts and other items related to this year’s ride.
The Sea Gull Century is Wicomico County’s largest annual one-day tourism event, with a regional economic impact estimated at some $2.5 million. Proceeds benefit SU students and programs, as well as local community organizations. This year’s participants will choose from two routes: the 100-mile Assateague Century or the 100-kilometer (62-mile) Princess Anne Metric. Both depart from and culminate at SU.
Registration opens Wednesday, June 1, and continues through September 20. This year’s registration fee is $100, the first price increase in a decade, reflecting rising costs associated with hosting the event.
