Jordan’s Tomorrow is Taking Shape at SU

SALISBURY, MD---One opportunity opens a door – which opens another door, and another. That’s how Jordan Oates of Howard County, MD, has gotten involved in so much during his time at Salisbury University.

It all started with his tight-knit friendships on the basketball team, where even new recruits feel like family. Thanks to the connections he made with his teammates and coaches, he is now an orientation leader, has worked with the Center for Student Involvement and Leadership, and is learning more about other cultures through clubs like the Caribbean Student Association.

“I really love my major, my relationships with my faculty and coaches, and all the connections I’m gaining here,” Oates said. “Getting to know the people and learning about all the opportunities for students here has only increased my love for SU.”

Oates is in the biomedical science – pre-dentistry track of SU’s biology major, so one day he can enter graduate school and become a dentist. He feels fully prepared for that day, thanks to the experiences he’s had at SU, from faculty who believe in him to sports and clubs that help him gain the skills to be a more open-minded person. The future is looking up, and he is discovering everything the world has to offer him.

“I feel prepared for anything,” Oates said. “I’m glad I chose this university.”
