Clarke Honors College Celebrates First Henson Honors Program Graduate

Anna BrennanSALISBURY, MD---Salisbury University’s Richard A. Henson School of Science and Technology and Glenda Chatham and Robert G. Clarke Honors College recently celebrated their first Henson Honors Program graduate.

Anna Brennan, of California, MD, graduated with a B.S. in biology. She is a Barry Goldwater Scholarship recipient, United Nations Millennium and Undergraduate Research fellow, executive director of the inaugural SU TEDx event, honors student ambassador, member of the Omicron Delta Kappa national leadership honor society and the Alpha Sigma Tau sorority, and managing editor for the Laridae undergraduate research journal. 

“As an internal transfer into the Honors College, I was fortunate to have the opportunity to enhance my academic experience through the Henson Honors Program,” said Brennan. “This achievement wouldn’t be possible without the invaluable guidance and support from Dr. Jennifer Nyland, program director.”

“Congratulations to Anna, the first of many Science Honors graduates from SU,” said Dr. Michael Scott, dean of SU’s Henson School. “We cannot thank the Richard A. Henson Foundation enough for their foresight and generosity to endow this unique academic enrichment program.”

The Richard A. Henson Honors Program in Science and Mathematics provides admitted students with enriched math and science courses with emphasis on critical thinking, enhanced undergraduate research experiences and unique opportunities to engage in career-advancing activities. The program provides students in majors within the Henson School with the flexibility to complete their major’s program requirements in a timely manner.

“Anna has proven herself to be an exemplary student in every way,” said Dr. Andrew Martino, dean of SU’s Clarke Honors College. “The fact that she is the first graduate in the Richard A. Henson Honors Program in Science and Math is no surprise, congratulations, Anna!”

Students enrolled in the Clark Honors College are afforded advantages including small class size, tailored courses on interesting and unique subjects, opportunities to work closely with faculty members on individualized research, opportunity to participate in one of four freshmen Honors Living Learning Communities, priority class registration, access to honors advising, financial support for conference travel and scholarships.
