SU, Salisbury Christian School Announce Dual Enrollment Partnership

graduates in regaliaSALISBURY, MD---Salisbury Christian School juniors and seniors interested in getting a head start on their college degrees will be able to enroll in over 60 Salisbury University courses thanks to a new dual enrollment partnership.

“Earning high school and college credits concurrently is extremely beneficial for students who want to save money, take weighted courses that will look great on college applications, and free up time that can be used to double major, study abroad or graduate early,” said Dr. Michael Scott, dean of SU’s Henson School of Science and Technology.

Beginning fall 2021, SCS students may earn dual credit in two primary ways. Students may opt to take university-approved curriculum, taught at SCS by Salisbury Christian faculty, or choose from a diverse list of courses offered by SU for dual credit.

“As a proud Sea Gull alum myself, I am particularly thrilled about this partnership,” said Dr. Steven Lamkin, Salisbury Christian School principal/incoming head of school. “Not only does this provide Salisbury Christian students the many benefits of earning dual credit, but they gain insight to the rich and valuable experiences provided to SU students.”

SU courses that align with those currently offered by SCS will be listed on students’ high school transcripts with the earned letter grade and contribute to high school credit count and grade point average (GPA).

Courses taught at SCS range from one to four credits. Calculus, Introduction to Teaching, English Composition and Statistics are among the options.

“I, myself, am looking forward to actually teaching one of these courses here at SCS next year, in partnership with SU’s Samuel W. and Marilyn C. Seidel School of Education,” said Lamkin.

SU courses that do not match a current SCS course will be noted as either pass/fail and will not impact credit count or GPA. All courses taken for dual-enrollment credit and passed will be awarded college credits at SU and will be eligible for transfer.

SU course options cover multiple disciplines including art, music, physics, languages, computer science and health sciences.

To be eligible for dual enrollment, a student must be a junior or senior, determined by credits earned, have an overall weighted grade point average of at least 2.75, meet all full-time student enrollment criteria as set forth in the SCS high school course catalog, and provide the academic advisor’s written confirmation of eligibility for the dual enrollment program.
