New Academic Options Available for SU Students Through National Student Exchange

National Student Exchange New OrleansSALISBURY, MD---Salisbury University recently joined the National Student Exchange (NSE), a premier network of colleges and universities facilitating exchange programs throughout the U.S.

Beginning in spring 2022, SU students will be able to spend a semester on exchange at one of 170 universities in the network. Students may use their financial aid at host universities and transfer back their credits toward majors, minors, general education requirements or free electives.

Online information nights to introduce the NSE to the SU community and provide updates on the restart of study abroad at the University are scheduled 7 p.m. October 26, November 15 and December 9. Students, faculty, staff and families are invited. Register online.

“Think about NSE like study abroad except in the U.S.” said Dr. Brian Stiegler, SU assistant provost for international education. “Now, SU students can spend a semester in Tennessee, Louisiana, New Mexico or Alaska as easy as they can spend a semester at our study abroad partners in Costa Rica, Spain, France, Hong Kong or Ghana.”

In addition to university partners in the U.S., NSE provides new opportunities for SU students to study abroad in Canada.

“From Nova Scotia to Quebec, to the foothills of the Canadian Rockies in Canada’s sunniest city, Calgary, SU students have unprecedented opportunity to learn about one of the USA’s most important global allies,” said Stiegler.

They also will gain access to additional semester-long study abroad programs around the world through the expanded NSE network.

“SU is committed to improving access to high-impact learning for all students,” said Dr. Karen Olmstead, SU provost and senior vice president of academic affairs. “NSE membership opens new doors for all SU students to explore the world.”

NSE was founded in 1968, with charter members University of Alabama, University of Montana and Illinois State University. Today, its members exchange some 2,000 students annually throughout the U.S., Canada, Guam, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. More than 118,000 students have taken advantage of collegiate study away through NSE.

There is still time to sign up for the exchange for spring 2022. Learn more and start an application.
