SU Celebrates International Francophonie Month
SALISBURY, MD---Salisbury University celebrates International Francophonie Month with a series of films and presentations in March.
Events include:
Tuesday, March 5 – Fulton Hall Room 111, 7 p.m.: Comédie Surprise! film screening. Dr. Aurelie Van de Wiele of the Mondern Languages and Intercultural Studies Department presents this comedy à la française.
Thursday, March 7 – Fulton Hall Room 111, 7 p.m.: “Studying in France: A Student’s Perspective” presentation. SU French majors who recently spent a semester studying in Lyon share their experiences, discussing what they learned about themselves and how their outlooks on life have changed. They also reflect on the importance of traveling, cultural awareness and diversity.
Monday, March 11 – Conway Hall Room 153, 7 p.m.: Avril ou le Monde Truqué (April and the Extraordinary World) film screening. Dr. Arnaud Perret of the Modern Languages and Intercultural Studies Department presents this animated feature, set in a dystopic France still ruled by the Bonapartes. In this world where modern technology and progress are frowned upon, scientists seem to mysteriously vanish. April, the teenage daughter of two brilliant chemists, goes on a search to find her missing parents.
Wednesday, March 13 – Hopper’s Tap House, 5:30 p.m.: French Conversation Hour with Van de Wiele and upper-level SU French students. High-intermediate and advanced speakers of French are welcome.
Monday, March 25 – Conway Hall Café, 3 p.m.: French Conversation Hour with Perret. Beginning and low-intermediate speakers of French are welcome.
Wednesday, March 27 – Conway Hall Room 153, 7 p.m.: Visages, Villages (Faces, Places) film screening. Dr. Ryan Conrath of the English Department presents this documentary, following 89-year-old director Agnès Varda and young street artist JR, who travel throughout France to find subjects for JR’s famous photographic mural portraits.
All films are shown in French with English subtitles.
Sponsored by the Modern Languages and Intercultural Studies Department and the Charles R. and Martha N. Fulton School of Liberal Arts, admission to all events is free and the public is invited.
