Battle of Antietam Subject of November 19 Lecture at SSU
The presentation is Thursday, November 19, at 7 p.m. at the Nabb Research Center, located on east campus at Power and Wayne streets. The talk is on the Battle of Antietam, illustrating that ñThese Pictures Have a Terrible Distinctness,î using battlefield images and computer visualization to study cultural landscapes. Antietam is one of the better preserved mid-19th century rural landscapes remaining in the eastern theater of the Civil War. Global Positioning Satellites (GPS), Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and computer visualization techniques are applied to the historical and archaeological study of the battlefield, in conjunction with the oldest available aerial photography (1862).
