Research Interests

My primary research interests are in empirical corporate finance. I am particularly interested in issues around liquidity, including credit line usage and cash holdings. I am also interested in research related to corporate payout policy and have a personal interest in behavioral finance.

Teaching Philosophy

I believe that a successful teacher must promote the development of students’ critical thinking and problem solving skills, be engaged with the community in order to provide opportunities for students, and, above all, respect and care about students. I strongly believe that learning how to think about problems is of primary importance to students’ future success regardless of career path. For this reason, I encourage and test big picture understanding rather than memorization.

Awards/Honors
Service Activities and Community Relations

I am the faculty advisor for the Financial Management Association (FMA). I believe that the FMA serves a vital educational role in the finance department, as it exposes students to career and networking opportunities and engages students with finance outside of the classroom.

In the community, I volunteer for Junior Achievement to bring financial education to K-12 classrooms and am a member of the Investment Committee for the Community Foundation of the Eastern Shore.
