Ethnic and Global Literatures

Engage with issues of race, ethnicity, identity and class as you study everything from Global South literature to the Harlem Renaissance. With the ethnic and global literatures minor at Salisbury University, you can explore the human condition with a wide range of authors and genres.

Why Choose Ethnic and Global Literatures at SU?

The minor in ethnic and intercultural studies offers you the opportunity to study other cultures and social groups in a variety of ways. Students must complete four courses in the English Department beyond the courses used to fulfill general education requirements (ENGL 103 with a C or better and the General Education literature course). Students may not use courses to satisfy overlapping requirements in multiple English minors and/or the English major programs of study. At least three of the courses beyond ENGL 103 must be taken at SU, and a minimum of three courses must be taken at the 300/400 level. A grade of C or better is required in courses for the minor.

Beyond the literature requirement, students must select four courses from the following:

  • ENGL 255 African-American Short Story
  • ENGL 256 Latina/o Literature
  • ENGL 257 Ethnic Literature of the United States
  • ENGL 258 American Women Writers of Color
  • ENGL 365 Literature of the Global South
  • ENGL 369 Global Literature and Justice
  • ENGL 371 Topics in Latina/o Literature
  • ENGL 377 Introduction to African Literature
  • ENGL 378 Literature of the African Diaspora
  • ENGL 379 Literature of the Harlem Renaissance
  • ENGL 382 African American Literature I
  • ENGL 383 African American Literature II
  • ENGL 384 Native American Literature
  • ENGL 389 Topics in Native American Literature
  • ENGL 469 Topics in Global South Literature
