COVID-19 Precautions Continue for Spring Semester

Message from the Provost

Dear Class of 2021:

I’m happy to offer my warm congratulations to our Class of 2021 graduates. You are completing your degree requirements under unusual and challenging conditions. My (graduation) cap is off to you!

Our SU community longs for a return to "normal." While we are unable to hold commencement in our usual way, we are planning a hybrid celebration with virtual and in-person components.

Each academic unit (college or school) and the Office of Graduate Studies will hold a virtual event to celebrate its graduates. These virtual events will include guest speakers, custom slides for each graduate, and the reading of graduate names.

In addition to the virtual events, the Commencement team is planning a tentative in-person “Grad Walk” at Sea Gull Stadium, May 13 – May 16. More information about this tentative plan will be shared with the SU community soon. Because this in-person component is subject to change based on the pandemic, the University will subsidize 50% of the cost for caps, gowns and hoods for bachelor’s and master’s degree recipients and 50% of the cost of rented doctoral regalia for our graduates. We sincerely hope that conditions will allow an in-person Grad Walk but must carefully monitor COVID conditions within the local and multi-state region. Accordingly, the in-person component is subject to cancellation. SU Administration expects to make a final decision about the Grad Walk by April 15.

Graduates, watch your SU email accounts for emails from “commencement@salisbury.edu” with details about cap and gown ordering and pick-up, and plans for virtual Commencement ceremonies and the Grad Walk, May 13 – 16.

Best wishes to you as you complete your degrees!

Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs
