Waters is Judge For 2004 National Book Award in Poetry

SALISBURY, MD---Dr. Michael Waters, English faculty at Salisbury University, Chairs five person judging committee in the poetry category of the National Book Foundation’s 2004 National Book Award competition. Waters has published several essays and books, including Parthenopi: New and Selected Poems.  He is a co-recipient of this year’s Towson University Prize for Literature. Waters has received a Fellowship in Creative Writing from the National Endowment for the Arts, several Individual Artist awards from the Maryland State Arts Council and three Pushcart prizes. In addition, in 2005 he serves as the Stadler Poet-in-Residence at Bucknell University. His newest book, Darling Vulgarity, is scheduled for release in 2006. On November 17th, the book world will gather in New York for the presentation of the 55th annual National Book Awards. The ceremony will feature the announcement of the four winners of the 2004 National Book Awards in fiction, nonfiction, poetry, and young people's literature as well as the presentation of the 2004 Medal for Distinguished Contribution to American Letters.
