WSDL Announces All-Talk Format
SALISBURY, MD---WSDL 90.7 FM, one of two public radio stations that serve listeners in Wicomico and surrounding counties from Salisbury University, will change format tomorrow. WSDL’s new schedule will be predominantly news and information programming from NPR, the BBC, PRI, and other sources.
WSDL has been simulcasting sister station WSCL’s classical music and news format. The WSCL broadcast schedule remains unchanged.
The new WSDL format is the first new public radio service on Delmarva in 17 years. Fred Marino, general manager of the stations, said the change is being made to respond to the needs of more listeners.
“We believe there is a clear need for new choices in news, talk, and information radio services,” Marino said. “Listeners frequently tell us they want to hear programs like Diane Rehm, Day to Day, and Talk of the Nation from National Public Radio. The new WSDL will give listeners those choices and more.
“At the same time,” Marino said, “WSCL will continue to offer the classical music programs that appeal to thousands of Delmarvans.”
The Diane Rehm Show is an interview program that focuses on contemporary issues. Day to Day offers news, features, and commentary. Talk of the Nation invites listeners and experts to examine ideas and opinions about current events. All three will be broadcast on WSDL daily, Monday through Friday. Also on the new WSDL weekday schedule will be Fresh Air from NPR, As It Happens from American Public Media, and World Briefing and The World Today from the BBC.
Other new WSDL offerings include Latino U.S.A., Speaking of Faith, Zorba Paster, Mountain Stage and Thistle and Shamrock.
Some programs already familiar to WSDL and WSCL listeners, such as Morning Edition, All Things Considered, Car Talk, Prairie Home Companion and Just Folks, will continue to be broadcast on both stations.
“I’m excited about these new programs,” Marino said. “For the first time, listeners will be able to hear widely popular news and information shows that until now had not been available here. Together, these programs attract millions of listeners across the country every week. I hope listeners here will let us know what they think about these new choices.”
WSCL and WSDL are services of the Salisbury University Foundation, Inc., and broadcast classical music and news/information programming to Delmarva from studios at Salisbury University 24 hours a day.
