Undergraduate Research Symposium April 27" 

SALISBURY, MD---Some 220 Salisbury State University students present their research on topics as varied as politics, computer graphics and the latest dance moves at the first annual SSU Undergraduate Research Conference on Friday, April 27, from 1-6:30 p.m. in Caruthers, Fulton and Holloway halls. 

Dr. Susan Cutter, a leading environmental hazard scientist and the conference’s guest speaker, lectures in Holloway Hall’s Great Hall a 5 p.m. Her talk touches upon many disciplines, from the sciences to social studies. 

In conjunction with the research conference, Dr. Julia Pedroni, researcher at the Polytech Center for the Study of Ethics and American Institutions and philosophy professor at Indiana University, speaks on research ethics on Thursday, April 26, at 7 p.m. in the Worcester Room of the Commons.

“The conference affords students an opportunity to showcase innovative and outstanding research,” said Dr. Timothy Dunn, SSU sociology professor who helped plan the event.

Student’s work is presented in a variety of formats, including panel discussions on topics from policy issues, social work, art and business to the environment, health and nursing, he said. Dramatic and musical performances will also be presented, Dunn added.

The three student sessions include a 1 p.m. panel on student voter apathy sponsored SSU’s Institute for Public Affairs and Civic Engagement (PACE) in Fulton Hall 121 and “Goodbye,” a 1 p.m., a modern dance performance choreographed by SSU senior Melissa Jordan in Holloway Hall Auditorium.

Additionally, the Senior Art Show gives a preview and guided tour of works by upcoming graduates in Fulton Hall Gallery.

“Come sample our students’ best work from the broad range of fields that make up our vibrant university,” said Dunn.
