SALISBURY, MD---Erin Silva, GIS project manager with the Eastern Shore Regional GIS Cooperative (ESRGC) at SU, recently was named Salisbury University’s 2017 Employee of the Year.

Announced during SU’s annual Employee Appreciation Day, the award included a $1,000 cash prize.

Silva, one of SU’s 12 SU Employees of the Month for the 2017 fiscal year, was nominated for her contributions to research, service and outreach.

“Erin is an asset not only to her colleagues with the ESRGC and the University, but to those she interacts with regularly in the private sector, as well as local and state governments,” said her nominator. “Erin regularly volunteers to assist with requests that fall outside of her job duties and regular work hours.”

These include work with the Girl Scouts of America, U.S. Department of Agriculture, SU’s Richard A. Henson School of Science and Technology, and St. Francis de Sales Catholic School.

“Erin is an outstanding leader in the ESRGC and consistent contributor to our science efforts,” said Dr. Karen Olmstead, dean of the Henson School. “Her technical expertise, team focus and positive attitude are indispensable to the ESRGC’s important work.”

Dr. Michael Scott, ESRGC director, agreed: “Erin is exactly the kind of role model we hope our GIS interns and analysts will emulate.”
