Salisbury Percussion Festival: SPF 18 April 12-14

Percussion EnsembleSALISBURY, MD---The Salisbury University Music, Theatre and Dance Department hosts the 2018 Salisbury Percussion Festival: SPF 18 Thursday-Saturday, April 12-14, in the Black Box Theatre of Fulton Hall.

All performances begin at 7:30 p.m.

The SU Percussion Ensemble inaugurates the festival with “An Evening of Percussion” on Thursday, April 12. Directed by Eric Shuster and Ted Nichols, the concert explores the intersection of sound and theatre with the premiere of a new work by composer Carolyn Chen.

Guest artist Nani Agbeli, director of West African music at the California Institute of the Arts’ Herb Alpert School of Music, follows on Friday, April 13, with a program of traditional Ghanaian music and dance.

The festival culminates with the SU World Drum Experience on Saturday, April 14. Directed by Nichols, the program includes a mix of reggae, Afro-beat, Latin, contemporary rock and funk music.
