SU's Hispanic Heritage Month 'Mariachi High' Screening Sept. 18

Mariachi High Movie PosterSALISBURY, MD---Salisbury University’s annual Hispanic Heritage Month Festival continues with a screening of the award-winning PBS documentary Mariachi High 7 p.m. Monday, September 18, in the Great Hall of Holloway Hall.

The 2012 film showcases a year in the life of the champion mariachi ensemble at Zapata High School in southern Texas.

Selected for several film festivals, including the Los Angeles Latino International Film Festival, the documentary is a winner of the Telly Award for independent television and web-based production. It also was a nominee for the Norman Lear Foundation’s Imagen Award and the National Geographic All Roads Film Festival Grand Jury Prize.

Texas Monthly has called Mariachi High “heartwarming.” The Salt Lake City Deseret News hailed it as “a gem of a documentary … truly gripping.”
