SU Celebration of Great Composers Presents 'Lisztomania' Sunday, March 6

SALISBURY, MD---Listening to music by a classical 19th century composer is one thing. Meeting him in person is quite another!

Audience members will have the opportunity to do both during Salisbury University’s fifth annual Celebration of Great Composers: Lisztomania at 1 and 3 p.m. Sunday, March 6, in the Great Hall of Holloway Hall.

Local piano students from elementary through high school perform works by German-Hungarian composer Franz Liszt, while actor Bob Drehmer portrays the famed musician. Organizers hope his portrayal help students and parents gain a better understanding of the man and his music. Drehmer has been involved with theatre at Wor-Wic Community College.

During the event, participating students have the opportunity to play on a concert piano—something many of them may never have done before. Works performed include "Liebestraum No. 3, Dream of Love," interpreted from the poems of Ludwig Uhland and Ferdinand Freiligrath.

The annual celebration is led by a committee of local music educators and members of the National Guild of Piano Teachers, including Luba Paskova, Donna Adler, Susan Boone and Camelia Lasley.

Sponsored by the Department of Music, a $5 donation is suggested at the door. Proceeds benefit SU’s Performing Arts Fund. The public is invited.
