SBDC Open House May 23

SALISBURY, MD---From old-fashioned candy recipes to modern recipes for Internet access, small businesses are thriving throughout Maryland and Delmarva. To celebrate small businesses and share their success stories, Gov. Parris Glendening has declared Tuesday, May 23, Maryland Small Business Development Center Network Day.

Locally small business owners and officials, from Somerset, Wicomico and Worcester counties, including Maryland Delegate Norm Conway, will discuss the opportunities and challenges faced by small businesses in today's economic climate at a reception hosted by the Maryland Small Business Development Center, Eastern Region, from 10-11:30 a.m. in the Montgomery Room in the Commons building on the campus of Salisbury State University. Admission is free and the public is invited.

Some of the small businesses represented at the reception will be:
Vatore's--owners Tim and Janet Beyer have brought the Beyer family candy recipe from Washington, D.C. to Salisbury, featuring "old fashion Italian caramels" made with heavy cream, glucose and sugar.
Fin-Tec--James Conner discusses his small metal plating company, a supplier to local and large microwave filter companies.
BuyDelmarva.com--Eric Morris, whose company slogan is "Connecting Delmarva to Local Merchants and Services," speaks about his Internet directory service provider.
East Coast Computing--Charlotte Scott's Crisfield-based company builds spec-computers for businesses and individuals, installs and networks business computer systems and trains staff to trouble shoot their own computer problems.

Providing an overview of issues facing small business on the Eastern Shore will be Brad Bellacicco, executive director of the Salisbury Area Chamber of Commerce and Dr. Richard F. Bebee, dean of the Franklin P. Perdue School of Business at SSU, discusses the role of the SBDC at Salisbury State. From 10 a.m.-3 p.m. on May 23, the Small Business Development Center, Eastern Region offices located in the Power Professional Building near the SSU Athletic Field Complex will be open for visitors.
