Public Radio Delmarva Begins Spring Membership Campaign

SALISBURY, MD---Public Radio Delmarva is more than just National Public Radio and award-winning local news-it’s part of the community.

On Wednesday, March 25, the stations kick off their spring membership campaign, “Now, More Than Ever!”

“And we’re not kidding,” said Gerry Weston, general manager. “The economy has affected Public Radio Delmarva like everyone else, and we’re facing some tough budget decisions for next year. The next few months are critical. We’re asking listeners and Delmarva businesses to step up.”

The campaign continues through Tuesday, June 30, with an on-air drive from March 25-April 4. Those who want to get an early start may visit the stations’ Web site to donate at any time. A “Supporter Thank-A-Thon,” during which volunteers will call to thank donors personally, is April 20-24. A phone-a-thon is scheduled April 27-May 7.

“We’re looking for 30 percent more from listeners and 24 percent more from Delmarva businesses than what we’ve projected for the remainder of our fiscal year,” said Weston. “This is a tall order, but public radio fans are passionate, involved and very smart. Businesses who support us understand the incredible audience they are reaching.”

Those who cannot afford to contribute funds are asked to donate their time. Telephone volunteers are needed throughout the campaign.

WSCL combines NPR news and classical music. WSDL is all news, public affairs, and information (NPR, Public Radio International, and American Public Media). The stations’ local news effort has won numerous awards from the Chesapeake Associated Press Broadcasters Association and the Public Radio News Directors, Inc.
