Peter and Judy Jackson Chamber Music Series Presents Faure Quartett November 16

Faure QuartettSALISBURY, MD---The Peter and Judy Jackson Chamber Music Series presents the Fauré Quartett 7 p.m. Monday, November 16, in the Great Hall of Salisbury University’s Holloway Hall.

The concert was postponed from last semester due to inclement weather.

Comprised of Dirk Mommertz (piano), Erika Geldsetzer (violin), Sascha Frömbling (viola) and Konstantin Heidrich (cello), the German quartet has made its mark performing not only traditional chamber music, but compositions outside the mainstream repertoire. These range from works by Mozart and Mendelssohn to pop songs from Peter Gabriel and Steely Dan.

Critics and others have taken notice. The group’s inaugural album, featuring Brahms’ piano quartets, was named the ECHO Klassik Chamber Music Recording of the Year. The quartet also has earned first prize at the German Music Competition and the ensemble prize from the Festspiele Mecklenburg-Vorpommern international competition, among others.

The quartet-in-residence at the University of Music Karsruhe, Fauré has performed at venues around the world, including the Berlin Philharmony, Teatro Colon Buenos Aires and London’s Wigmore Hall.

The Los Angeles Times called Fauré’s performance “up close and immediate, just the way chamber music used to be before concert halls became oversized and ensembles became jet-setters.” Süddeutsche Zeitung has proclaimed, “The Fauré Quartett is right up there with the best ensembles you can listen to today.”

Sponsored by the Cultural Affairs Office, admission is free and the public is invited. For more information call 410-543-6271 or visit the SU website at www.salisbury.edu.
