News Personality John Tibbetts Speaks at SU November 10

SALISBURY, MD---CBS Television and CNN news reporter and commentator John Tibbetts speaks on “Portraits of Music from Eastern Europe” at 7 p.m. Monday, November 10, in Henson Science Hall Room 243 as part of Salisbury University’s fall Eastern European Cultural Series.

An author, educator, broadcaster, artist and pianist, Tibbetts earned the first interdisciplinary Ph.D. given by the University of Kansas. He has written and illustrated eight books, more than 200 articles and several short stories.

He is co-author, along with SU English professor Jim Welsh, of the Encyclopedia of Novels into Film (1998), the Encyclopedia of Stage Plays into Film (2001) and the two-volume Encyclopedia of Filmmakers (2002). From 1976-1985 he edited American Classic Screen (the publication of the National Film Society) and he is a regular contributor to the Christian Science Monitor.

He is a senior editor for Ballantine Books’ annual Movie/Video Guides and has contributed to several major reference works, including the Encyclopedia of the 20th Century, the Oxford Companion to Mystery and Crime Writing, Magill’s Guide to Science Fiction and Fantasy Literature, and American Cultural Biography. Currently, he is an associate professor of film at the University of Kansas and is working on a book dealing with composers treated on film.

The SU Office of Cultural Affairs and Museum Programs sponsors the lecture. The event is free and the public is cordially invited.
