Nadasen Keynotes SU Women's History Month Series March 16

Premilla NadasenSALISBURY, MD---Premilla Nadasen, visiting associate professor of history at Barnard College, keynotes Salisbury University’s 2017 Women’s History Month series 7 p.m. Thursday, March 16, in the Wicomico Room of the Guerrieri Student Union.

The author of the book Welfare Warriors: the Welfare Rights Movement in the United States, she discusses the efforts of women who are doubly marginalized due to their class or employment to organize to win greater sociopolitical recognition and a voice in the workplace.

In her book, Nadasen analyzes how grassroots welfare activists forged a distinctive brand of feminism out of the political and cultural circumstances of their lives. In the process, they remapped the contours of radical politics and influenced the contested terrain of welfare policy. In a second book, Household Workers Unite!, she discussed the history of domestic worker organizing in the U.S.

Sponsored by the Fulton Public Humanities Committee, admission is free and the public is invited. For more information call 410-543-6450 or visit the SU website at
