Multicultural Festival Week Celebrated at SU April 26-30

SALISBURY, MD---The Salisbury University Office of Multiethnic Student Services sponsors Multicultural Festival Week Monday-Friday, April 26-30, at the SU campus. Activities begin with “Chicken Gumbo for the Multicultural Soul,” a lecture by Washington, D.C., freelance television reporter Elliott Lewis at 7 p.m. Monday, April 26, in the Wicomico Room of the Guerrieri University Center. Lobna Ismail, executive director of the diversity training organization Continuing Cultures, Inc., continues the weeklong celebration with the lecture “Understanding Islam and Muslims in the U.S.” at 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 27, in the Wicomico Room. The Asian and Pacific Islander Club co-sponsors an Asian and Pacific Islander adoption issues panel at 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 28, in the Wicomico Room. Panelists share their experiences as Asian and Pacific Islander students who were adopted by non-Asian parents and raised in the United States. The audience is invited to participate. Thursday, April 29, is Multicultural Festival Day, featuring samples of multicultural food and entertainment from noon-3 p.m. at the Devilbiss Hall mall area and Pergola. Rain location is the Wicomico Room and lounges of the Guerrieri Center. Performers include The Steel Kings, Keith Marks Jazz Trio, Mystic Warriors, the SU Step Squad and bagpipes sponsored by the Celtic Club. The Student Organization for Activities Planning sponsors hip-hop airbrush painting that afternoon at the Pergola. The SU Dance Company hosts a children’s matinee featuring flamenco and African dances at 1 p.m. in Holloway Hall Auditorium. Sponsored by the Department of Health, Physical Education and Human Performance, seating is limited to children, parents and teachers, and advance reservations are required. Multicultural Week events conclude with a Ritmo Latino (Latin rhythm) dance from 7-11 p.m. Friday, April 30, in the Gull’s Nest of the Guerrieri Center. The Organization of Latin-American Students sponsors the event. Admission to all activities is free and the public is cordially invited.
