Maryland Summer Center for the Arts Auditions April 9

SALISBURY, MD---Sponsored by the Maryland State Department of Education, the Maryland Summer Center for the Arts at Salisbury University offers talented middle and high school students across the state an opportunity to study music/orchestra, visual art, traditional photography, musical theatre, television production and acting in a two-week residential summer program.

Auditions for this year’s program are 9:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Saturday, April 9, in the Fulton Hall Lobby on campus. Off-campus auditions are 9:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Saturday, April 16, at Franklin Middle School in Reisterstown, MD.

In addition to 5-6 hours of class each day, students live and work in small groups to develop problem solving, interpersonal, and community building skills. Field trips, workshops, and performances by guest artists enhance the learning experience.

Last season, students experienced the Unified Jazz Ensemble, the National Tap Ensemble, visual comedian Pete Geist, poet Linda Joy Burke, improvisational comedy troupe Bound and Gagged, Quest/Arts for Everyone visual theatre for the hearing and hearing impaired, musical group Sangmele and visual artist Joyce Scott. 

Trips to the Kennedy Center, Brandywine River Museum/Kuerner Farm, the N.C. Wyeth House/Studio, and Longwood Gardens provided fun and unique opportunities for learning.
