Maryland Charity Campaign Underway at SU

Maryland Charity CampaignSALISBURY, MD---As the holiday season approaches, Salisbury University’s faculty and staff are asked to help the less fortunate by contributing to the Maryland Charity Campaign.

This year, SU is teaming with the University’s United Way chapter, Maryland’s first student chapter. The United Way of the Lower Eastern Shore, Inc. (No. 4883 in the Maryland Charity Campaign’s Giving Guide) serves 54 programs in Wicomico, Worcester, Somerset and Dorchester counties, directly impacting many neighbors and friends of the University community.

Students will visit offices across campus to share more about The United Way’s efforts. They also lead a tour of several area facilities served by the United Way from 9 a.m.-noon Friday, November 7. Those interested in attending should RSVP to Gina Boobar at gmboobar@salisbury.edu. Space is limited.

Additional agencies participating in the campaign include the Salisbury University Foundation, Inc. (No. 1266 in the Giving Guide), along with almost 700 others.

Those making a one-time donation of $5 or more will be eligible to win an iPad. Those making a bi-weekly donation of $1 or more receive two chances to win an iPad. The deadline to enter is Friday, December 5. Those donating online should e-mail their receipt to Chief of Staff Amy Hasson at ashasson@salsibury.edu to enter. The winner will be drawn during the annual President’s Holiday Social on Wednesday, December 10.

Employees who make one-time gifts by cash, check or money order will receive an acknowledgement by Friday, January 30.  Those who contribute by payroll deductions should keep their pledge card bottoms along with pay stubs showing the amount withheld. These items will satisfy Internal Revenue Service requirements for substantiating charitable gifts.
