Klingon Klezmer Comes to SU October 15

SALISBURY, MD---Salisbury University is boldly going where no university on Maryland’s Eastern Shore has gone before, courtesy of the band Klingon Klezmer.

Named for characters on the TV show Star Trek and the type of Jewish party music the band plays, the group performs 7 p.m. Wednesday, October 15, at SU’s Red Square.

Klezmer is a 500-year-old Jewish tradition reminiscent of Balkan, Greek and Gypsy music. The tradition receives a modern twist from Klingon Klezmer. The group’s members -- seven jazz, funk and Dixieland musicians from Philadelphia -- combine traditional Klezmer with turn-of-the-century Yiddish socialist worker songs and Kurt Weill-esque torch songs.

The SU Office of Cultural Affairs and Museum Programs sponsors the event. The performance is free and the public is cordially invited. Rain location is the Wicomico Room in the Guerrieri University Center.
