Images of my Mind" Opens February 8 In Atrium Gallery

SALISBURY, MD--"Images of my Mind," a collection of watercolor paintings and watercolor collages by Angela Herbert- Hodges, will be featured in the Guerrieri University Center Atrium Gallery. The exhibition runs from February 8-March 17, with a reception on Friday, February 11, from 4-6 p.m.

Herbert-Hodges work is recognized for expressive use of color and has been shown in such venues as the Globe Theatre in Berlin, Gallery by the Pond, and the Finer Side Gallery in both Salisbury and Washington D.C. Having received the Juror's Choice and Mayor's Award at the Maryland Federation of Arts Juried Shows on different occasions, Herbert-Hodges is gaining recognition as a regional artist.

Herbert-Hodges attributes the influences in her artwork to the varying environments she has lived in and her interest in fencing. Her attention to detail is an extension of her precise nature with the rapier. She was ranked sixth among British fencers in 1976 and was an Olympic hopeful in 1972 and 1976. It was in her early 30s, living in Zimbabwe, that she was first inspired to paint. She finds pieces of all of the places she has lived-- England, Paris, Spain, Zimbabwe and the United States-- in her work. Now living on the Eastern Shore, Herbert-Hodges has taught at Wicomico High School and Salisbury's Art Institute and Gallery.

Sponsored by University Galleries, admission to the show is free, and the public is welcome. For more information, please call the Gallery Offices at 410-548-3972 or 410-543-6271.
