Hearing History: Big Band Jazz Through the Decades Oct. 12

class=""MsoNormal"">SALISBURY, MD---Both music and literature can help define an era. The SU Jazz Brazz Big Band and Blackwell Library join forces 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, October 12, to show just how during “Hearing History: Big Band Jazz Through the Decades” at the library.

class=""MsoNormal"">During the program, brief historical readings capturing the spirit of each musical era punctuate the band’s musical numbers. Selections include music originally performed by the Count Basie Orchestra, Duke Ellington Orchestra and Woody Herman’s “Thundering Herds.”

class=""MsoNormal"">"One of the greatest pleasures about working with this particular band is that every time they play, I get to listen to some of the best student and community jazz musicians on the Shore,” said Dr. Jerry Tabor, director of the ensemble. “The SU Jazz Brazz Big Band seems to be where the entire Shore comes together for jazz."

class=""MsoNormal"">The band specializes in various genres of jazz such as Kansas City-style, swing, fusion, blues, Latin, and funk. The performance features the trumpet section, as well as trombone and tenor saxophone solos.  The event is free and the public is invited.
