Folk Heroes Concert Benefits Music Scholarship Fund

SALISBURY, MD---When they learned Salisbury University sought funding for music scholarships, the Folk Heroes rose to the call.

The decade-old Salisbury-based folk music group hosts a concert to benefit the SU Music Scholarship Fund 8 p.m. Friday, August 22, at the Charles H. Chipman Cultural Center on Broad Street.

 

The trio (Salisbury attorney Robin Cockey on fiddle; Dr. Michael O’Loughlin, chair of the SU Political Science Department, on guitar; and Princess Anne physician Dr. Charles Stegman on guitar and banjo) hopes proceeds from the concert will encourage students to bring their musical gifts to SU.

 

“The idea is to take students who play instruments, help them out financially and help the Music Department recruit these students to SU,” Cockey said.

 

Cockey has a special interest in SU’s music program. A former member of the Salisbury Symphony Orchestra, he is married to Dr. Linda Cockey, chair of the Music Department.

 

The Cockeys’ daughter, Rosie, also performs some pieces with the group. The 10-year-old takes after her father, playing fiddle.

Admission to the concert is $10 per person. Refreshments are available. No advance reservations are required. The public is cordially invited.
