Fire Department Trains at Allenwood November 21-22

SALISBURY, MD---The Salisbury Fire Department will conduct training at the Allenwood Shopping Center on South Salisbury Boulevard 8 a.m.–1 p.m. Saturday-Sunday, November 21-22.  Owned by Salisbury University, the Allenwood building is slated to be demolished in coming weeks so construction may begin on a new 600-bed residence hall and retail complex.

The hands-on training will feature various live scenarios including large area searches, forced entry, wall breaching, commercial structure operations, Rapid Intervention Team practice and the use of simulated smoke.  The Allenwood parking lot will be closed.

Such trainings are essential tools for local firefighters to be able to practice their skills and increase their knowledge.

“Having use of a large commercial structure such as the Allenwood Shopping Center is invaluable,” said William Gordy, deputy fire chief.  “We will be able to mentor and teach many firefighters during this two-day period, in one location.  This is a tremendous benefit to the Salisbury Fire Department, and we thank Salisbury University for allowing us to use building prior to it being razed.  We are looking forward to a great weekend of education and brotherhood.”
