Family Weekend October 20-22

SALISBURY, MD---Salisbury State University’s Family Weekend 2000 will bring some 1,500 people here Friday, October 20-Sunday, October 22, for activities that enable students to share with their families the academic, cultural and social attractions of University life. Many of the weekend’s events are free.

“We consider Family Weekend to be an essential part of the freshman experience,” said Lawanda Dockins-Gordy, SSU’s director of New Student Experiences. “The University experience is often a family endeavor. Family Weekend is an opportunity for family and friends to share in what’s happening on campus.”

Family Weekend begins Friday night with the 11th annual SSU Variety Show (or V11), featuring the performing talents of the Salisbury State community. V11 is in Holloway Hall Auditorium at 7:30 p.m.; admission is $5, free for SSU students, faculty and staff. There is a repeat performance the next night.

A continental breakfast in the Guerrieri University Center Saturday morning will be followed by welcoming remarks by SSU President Janet Dudley-Eshbach and then a slide show presentation at 9 a.m. featuring students from the New Student Experience Program. At 11 a.m. parents will have the opportunity to join in a open discussion about drinking by college students.

Saturday afternoon is an opportunity to meet the faculty at the University’s four schools: Franklin P. Perdue School of Business, Charles R. and Martha N. Fulton School of Liberal Arts, Samuel W. and Marilyn C. Seidel School of Education and Professional Studies and Richard A. Henson School of Science and Technology. A pair of art exhibits are on display in the University and Atrium galleries. A seafood dinner is at 4 p.m. at the Guerrieri University Center; pre-registration is required.

On Sunday, the family can enjoy brunch in the Commons from 11 a.m.-3:30 p.m. No registration is required.
