Edwin Cowell is New Dean of Students at SU

SALISBURY, MD---Edwin Cowell joins Salisbury University as the new dean of students in the Office of the Vice President for Student Affairs.

Cowell served as the associate dean of students at Bucknell University from 1999-2001.  Prior to that, he was director of multicultural affairs and assistant to the associate vice president for student affairs at The College of William and Mary from 1993-1999.

Most recently, Cowell had returned to William and Mary to complete his doctorate in higher education while working as an area director in the Residence Life Program, where he served as a campus judicial officer.  He holds a Master of Education Administration from Virgina Commonwealth University and a Bachelor of Arts in psychology from Virginia Wesleyan University.

“I was attracted to SU because the school has a reputation for its growth across the state of Maryland.  That presents a dynamic opportunity for me professionally and allows me to be a part of something that I feel will be very special for the University and the state of Maryland,” Cowell said.

His goals as the new dean of students include strengthening the student code of conduct to help ensure student safety and building a community of respect between and among the campus and neighboring communities.  Additionally, Cowell seeks to establish a more collaborative process between student affairs and academic affairs.

“Cowell brings us his wide experience in diversity programming for all segments of a university community as well his leadership in developing and administering the first-year student experience program,” said Dr. Ellen Neufeldt, vice president of student affairs.

Cowell serves as the University’s chief judicial officer and coordinates student life programming.  Additionally, he oversees Multiethnic and International Student Services; Student Activities, Organizations and Leadership; and the Guerrieri University Center and the New Student Experience Program.
