Consumers Digest Names SU a 'Best Value'

SALISBURY, MD---Salisbury University remains one of the top values in public higher education nationwide, according to rankings released by Consumers Digest.

In the magazine’s May-June edition, now in stores, SU is named a best value among the top 125 public universities nationally. Salisbury is the only university in Maryland included on the list.

To select the top “best value” institutions, Consumers Digest weighed academic issues such as standardized testing scores and high school rankings of incoming freshmen with quality items including faculty-to-student radio and graduation rates. That total was then balanced with the cost of attendance for the 2003-04 academic year.

Consumers Digest is not the only publication to recognize SU’s quality and value. U.S. News & World Report’s 2003 “America’s Best Colleges” lists SU as the fourth best university of its kind in the North.

Kaplan’s The Unofficial, Unbiased Insider’s Guide to the 328 Most Interesting Colleges (from among 3,500 publics and privates in the nation) highlights SU’s commitment to undergraduate research and service learning programs.

The October 2003 issue of Kiplinger’s Personal Finance names SU as the 75th best institution among the more than 600 public colleges and universities in the country surveyed. The listing also includes SU as one of the 100 best values in higher education.

In addition, SU is featured in The Princeton Review’s Best 351 Colleges, which represents the top 10 percent of some 3,500 public and private colleges and universities nationally. The Princeton Review placed Salisbury in the top 20 percent of most technologically advanced campuses from the 351 named this year’s best.

“We are obviously pleased about the recognition Salisbury University is receiving from these national publications,” said President Janet Dudley-Eshbach. “It confirms what many in Maryland and the rest of the Mid-Atlantic have known for some time: SU is one of the best universities of its kind, public or private, in the nation.”
