Classical Mythology Offered Via Interactive TV

SALISBURY, MD---Classical Mythology is being offered by Salisbury State University via Interactive Television (ITV) at Chesapeake College in Wye Mills during the spring 2001 semester, Monday, January 29, through Tuesday, May 15. The course, which will be delivered live at SSU, is available to both full-time degree students and part-time non-degree students.

The class introduces students to major figures in classical Greek and Roman mythology and demonstrates the interconnectedness of classical mythology and history from ancient times until the present. According to the instructor, Dr. Kevin Birch, "A general knowledge of classical mythology is indispensable for an understanding of social and political history of both the ancient and modern worlds and without this knowledge much of literature and art, past and present, would remain unintelligible." The class meets Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 10-10:50 a.m. Chesapeake prerequisite HIS 121 is required.
